The TELCON-IT is a GSM remote control AC power outlet that connects to the mobile / cell phone network and like a mobile phone has its own telephone number, the equipment connected to it is controlled by sending the unit SMS text messages.
The TELCON-IT has a mains AC power socket that the equipment to be powered and controlled is plugged into, and an AC power supply cable that plugs into an AC mains supply outlet. The unit is supplied with an international power adaptor that will accept UK, EU and USA plugs.
The following control functions are available, switch on, switch off and power cycle (reboot), for example to reboot the equipment connected simply send the following text message <8888,1> the equipment will power off for 20 seconds (default time, but can be configured) and then power on, a confirmation text message will be sent. The unit will only accept and action text messages that have the correct password, in the previous example 8888, this can be changed as required.
The TELCON-IT is powered by the supplied 12V dc mains adaptor, the adaptor has UK, EU and USA adaptor plates. There is an onboard battery backup, this allows the unit to send a text message should there be a power failure, if power is lost it will send the following message 'AC power fault' when power is restored the following message 'AC power restore',
The reporting telephone numbers, power cycle time, acknowledgement messages, password are configurable, please download the instruction manual for full details. TELCON-IT user manual
Applications
Restart applications include rebooting of remote radio equipment, routers, servers, modems, ATM’s, CCTV digital video recorders, video equipment in fact any type of equipment that sometimes 'hangs' and needs a restart to restore its operation.
On and off switching applications include the control of aviation engine pre-heaters, remote irrigation systems, water well pumps, plug in appliances such as electric heaters and air conditioning units.
Benefits
The benefits of remote power control are many, for example the ability to remotely recycle power to non responsive systems can lead to a significant reduction in server downtime. Additionally there is a substantial cost saving as it is not necessary to physically dispatch personnel to perform a hard reboot.
